      Detailed Description

Clear, intense ruby with garnet glints. Appealing, multilayered nose, a round dance begins with notes of sealing wax, some cranberry, resin and cedar, then juicy plum and raspberry. Polished and round in attack and progression, flows quietly but continuously, opens with fine-mesh tannin, fine texture, finishing with rich raspberry fruit.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The Fuligni 2013 Brunello di Montalcino exhibits a dark garnet color with copper-like highlights at the rim. The wine is sophisticated and austere in character, and the fruit tones are etched and firm. All of these qualities contribute to the overall sense of finesse and pedigree presented by Fuligni. Dark cherry and dried fruit segue to mineral aromas and campfire ash. The wine maintains a somewhat serious and introspective quality throughout. This Annata Brunello shows more nuance compared to the 2012 Riserva.
      • James Suckling: A balanced and firm red with plum, light chocolate, walnut and spice character. Medium to full body and silky tannins. I love the flavorful finish.

      Producer Information

Fuligni is a family-owned estate, located on the eastern side of Montalcino. It is known best for its Brunello di Montalcino produced exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso grapes. The estate has around 10 hectares (25 acres) of mostly Sangiovese vines, split between four vineyards. These are found primarily located on east- or southeast-facing slopes with rocky soils. The cellars are located at Cottimelli in an 18th Century residence which was once the home of Medici grand dukes. The Fulignis are originally a Venetian family whose long history includes service as mercenaries in the court of Edward III of England in the 14th Century. Luigi Fuligni was given an estate in the Maremma when recruited as a general for the Duke of Tuscany in 1770, and members of the family moved to Montalcino to make wine in 1900. The Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino spends around 30 months in large oak barrels, and is then aged for a further 18 months in bottle. The Riserva, which is only made in the best years, spends 36 months in barrel and two years in bottle before its release. Fuligni also produces a Rosso di Montalcino, Ginstreto, from selected parts of the vineyards, as well as an IGT Toscana from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot.
