An attractive ruby red wine of medium intensity with light rust tones. On the nose, it is markedly aromatic with notes of ripe fruit, toasted and balsamic aromas. Producer Information
Baron de Ley is a high-profile Spanish winery located on the east side of the river Ebro in the Rioja DOCa and best known for red wines, and the Tempranillo grape variety. The estate has a history dating back to the construction of its signature fortress in 1548. It eventually became a Benedictine property, with the monks planting the first vines on the property. The Baron de Ley winery was founded in 1985, with the monastery becoming the headquarters for the winery. The Baron de Ley Winery is a member of the Baron de Ley Group along with El Coto de Rioja and Finca Museum in Cigales. Tempranillo is the dominant grape in line with the reputation of Rioja, along with Grenache and Macabeo, but Baron de Ley also releases wine with a focus on the less-common regional fruit. Single varieties and proprietary blends beyond the classic Rioja-designated wine are made from grapes including Maturana Tinta, Graciano, Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Grenache Blanc. In all, the Baron de Ley group boasts over 600 hectares (nearly 1500 acres) of company-owned vineyards. The company is majority owned and operated by Mazuelo Holdings (a holding company run by Baron de Ley managing director, Eduardo Santos-Ruiz Diaz), which took over a majority position in the wine company in 2018.
