      Reviews:

      • Wine Enthusiast: This wine is gold in color with a greenish tinge. The aromas are heady and opulent and wound together seamlessly. They engulf the senses with honey, lemon rind, toasty oak and hints of flint and blossoms. The palate is beautifully structured, slinky and mouth coating but lifted by crystalline acidity. The oak is present but finessed. It's fabulously food friendly and ready to drink now.
      • James Suckling: This has a fresh, lively, poached-pear, lemon, hazelnut and praline nose with some gently flinty nuances. The palate has a smooth, yellow-peach edge and a pithy lemon and grapefruit core with attractively sinewy concentration at the finish.

      Producer Information

Bass Phillip is an Australian wine producer, located in the Gippsland wine region in the south of the state of Victoria. It produces a premium range of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that are renown for their ability to cellar. The core range of the Bass Phillip wine portfolio is the Reserve, Premium and Estate Pinot Noir, sourced from the same plots within the estate vineyard. Planted in 1979, these vines have been biodynamically cultivated since 2002 on deep mineral soils. The terroir is renown for cool temperatures throughout the growing season allowing grapes to slowly ripen and accure flavor compounds. In the winery, fermentation occurs via wild yeasts from the vineyard and winery. New and used French Allier barriques are sourced for barrel-aging, the length of which depends on the wine with the Reserve Pinot Noir spending a maximum of 20 months. The movement of wine is powered by gravity to prevent excess oxidation and to maintain complexity, no fining or filtration is utilized prior to bottling. Bass Phillip is named after the 19th Century explorer George Bass and Arthur Phillip, the first governor of the state of New South Wales.
