      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The 2018 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru was showing extremely well, soaring from the glass with an exuberant bouquet of cherries, raspberries, blood orange, espresso roast, dark chocolate and nicely integrated new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, velvety and supple, with almost melting tannins that are entirely cloaked in rich but lively fruit and concluding with a beautifully defined finish. If the 2017 Ruchottes is ethereal and supremely elegant, the 2018 occupied a richer, more gourmand and textural register, but it remains exquisitely well balanced.
      • Vinous: The 2018 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, like Roumier's own take, shows some reduction on the nose, whilst the fruit is a tad darker and the oak more pronounced. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth entry, harmonious red berry fruit, subtle spicy notes with an almost gentle, lilting finish that is quite beguiling. Afford this two or three years in bottle and it should evolve into a sensual Ruchottes.

      Producer Information

Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is a French producer of high-quality Pinot Noir located in the Côte de Nuits, best known for wines made from the most sought-after vineyards in Burgundy. The domaine was created in 1933 after the marriage of André Mugneret to Jeanne Gibourg of the established Vosne-Romanée Gibourg family. Their son, Georges Mugneret, an ophthalmologist, extended his family's vineyard holdings by buying small plots of land in the 1950s. He began bottling these wines with his own label, Dr Georges Mugneret. The two domaines came together in 2009 under the name of Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. The vines of Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg had been tended by sharecroppers and remained so even after the merger. Because of this a significant portion of the fruit does not go into Mugneret-Gibourg's wines. The vineyards, however, are some of the most famous and highly regarded in the region, located in esteemed communes such as Nuits-Saint-Georges, Gevery-Chambertin, and Flagey-Echezeaux. The domaine's most prized and expensive wines come from the the grand cru vineyards of Ruchottes Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Echézeaux, and the premier cru vineyards Les Chaignots, Les Vignes Rondes and Les Feusselottes. Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is also known for high-quality and ageworthy village-level wines from Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the broadly classified Bourgogne Rouge, which commands an impressive $50 per bottle. Following George's death in 1988 the domaine has been run by his widow Jacqueline, and daughters Marie-Christine Teillaud and Marie-Andrée Nauleau.
