        Producer Information

Seresin Estate is a wine producer based in Marlborough, making a wide range of wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, among others. It was founded by cinematographer Michael Seresin in the early 1990s, and was one of the first producers in New Zealand to begin making wines from organically grown grapes. It is now farmed biodynamically. The white grape varieties planted here are reasonably diverse. The Marlborough flagship Sauvignon Blanc is made in a "standard" version and barrel-fermented as the "Marama" cuvée. An ageworthy Reserve version has been made in several vintages. Riesling comes in dry, off-dry (Memento) and occasionally late harvest forms. Pinot Gris and Chardonnay (standard and reserve) wines are also produced. The Chiaroscuro release is currently the only multi-variety blend; this is a co-fermentation of Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay. The red wines are made exclusively from Pinot Noir. This lineup is underpinned by the Leah cuvée, which is sourced from fruit across the estate and also features a collection of wines from specific blocks and parcels. These are headed by Sun and Moon, from a few rows within the Osip slope, only made in the best years. The estate previously had vineyards in both the Wairau and Omaka valleys, but now concentrates on the Raupo Creek Vineyard in the latter subregion. This is a substantial, 80-hectare (200-acre) property with 51 hectares (126 acres) under vine. The property is certified by Demeter for biodynamics and the wines are certified organic by Biogro. Seresin uses natural yeasts to make its wines. They wines are not fined or filtered before bottling. The Seresin winery was sold to New Zealand winemaker Ben Glover in 2018, subsequently becoming a small-batch, contract winemaking facility called The Coterie. Seresin Estate is a client.
