      Detailed Description

Fine, new saddle leather aromas, vivid violet, juicy blackberry and tobacco leaf. Smooth and fresh, it has superior depth with noticeable yet refined tannins. The high percentage of new oak and Cabernet Sauvignon make for a seamless, long finish: opulent, fresh and precise.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The 2020 Capbern offers up aromas of sweet cassis, plums, pencil shavings, loamy soil and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and seamless palate that's polished, penetrating and dynamic. It's a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot and the balance Merlot, produced by Vincent Millet and his team from Calon Ségur.
      • James Suckling: This is pretty and aromatic with ripe black cherries and blackberries as well as hints of chocolate, sweet spices and nut shell. Full-bodied with a deep character of mellow black fruit. Firm and structured with ripe, fine-grained tannins and a velvety finish.

      Producer Information

Château Capbern is a Cru Bourgeois wine estate in the Saint-Estèphe region of Bordeaux. It produces a red wine of good structure, easily capable of aging 10 to 20 years in good vintages. The wine typically has around 55 to 70 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 25 to 40 percent Merlot. Small amounts of Cabernet Franc (in some vintages) and Petit Verdot complete the blend. The estate had been in the ownership of the Gasqueton family for ten generations, and was previously called Capbern Gasqueton. In 2012 it was sold alongside Calon-Ségur to the French insurance company Suravenir, who dropped the second part of the name from the 2013 vintage.
