Distillery Information

Chivas Brothers is a producer of leading labels of blended Scotch whisky under the Chivas Regal brand. It is the core Scotch whisky business of Pernod Ricard, which acquired it in 2001. The core Chivas Regal expression is a 12 year old, while 18- and 25-year-old versions are also available. The Extra is aged in American Rye casks, while The Icon is a limited edition release of more than 20 rare whiskies, including now-silent distilleries. The Royal Salute is a subsidiary brand of Chivas, but is marketed separately. As with many Scotch brands, the company traces its roots to the opening of a grocery store, this time in Aberdeen. The store gained fame through the 19th Century – from 1843 it had a royal warrant to supply goods to Queen Victoria and her household at Balmoral. During the 1850s, demand for a smoother style of whisky led the company to create its own proprietary blends. Chivas Regal was introduced in the early 1900s, aimed at the booming US luxury goods market. In 1950, the company bought the Strathisla single malt distillery. This is the spiritual home of Chivas Regal and forms the basis of the blends, though numerous other malt and grain whiskies are used, including Aberlour and Miltonduff. In 2015, the company opened Dalmunach distillery in Speyside to meet demand for the Chivas and Ballantine's blends.
