Clase Azul | Master Artisans Collection by Angel Santos is an 8 Year Old Extra Anejo tequila—the brand’s longest-aged tequila to date—that began its journey in casks previously used for American whiskey for 64 months, followed by an additional 41 months in three different sherry casks: amontillado, oloroso, and Pedro Ximénez. The result is an smooth, full-bodied blend with notes of orange peel, berries, and toasted wood. One could go as far as calling it liquid gold.

Clase Azul Puebla distinctive decanter decoration is inspired by Puebla’s rich cultural history. It features delicate workmanship, bright cobalt and yellow colors, and floral shapes. Our artisans illustrated the French symbol of luxury: the fleur de lis, and the Mexican Agave––a symbol of health and fertility for some of our indigenous cultures. A perfect example of how the contributions of different cultures can create a masterpiece.

About The Artist

For its inaugural edition, Clase Azul collaborated with award-winning artist Ángel Santos. Santos, who is renowned for his ceramics and decorative painting style, also makes contributions toward preserving the craft through his role as a teacher, cultural curator, and as the cofounder of Herencia Milenaria, a local artisan community in Tonalá, Jalisco, where his workshop is located. And when Herencia Milenaria was approached by the spirits brand for this new project, despite being in the midst of a pandemic and commuting challenges, Santos said, “to Clase Azul, we can never say ‘no.’ They support us as artisans and we want to give back.” This strong sentiment is because, as a company, Clase Azul is committed to Mexican culture and heritage.

All the decanters used for their tequila and mezcal portfolio are handmade and hand painted using the Mazahua people’s ancient techniques by their team of skilled workers in the town of Santa María Canchesda. The company also has a foundation that supports artisans by educating them on how to monetize their work and build a sustainable business plan.

On the first Master Artisans bottle by Santos you’ll find long-plumed pheasants, which symbolize light and prosperity in many cultures, and flowers that are iconographic symbols of Tonalá tradition. The blue represents the air, sky, and water, while the two orange flowers embody sun and fire, paying tribute to elements that are necessary for creating ceramics. Each decanter was meticulously hand painted, a process that took 10 to 12 hours for each piece.
