Detailed Description

The Karuizawa Cask Strength 1st release is one of 4 different Cask Strength single malt whiskies which have been exclusively released for the Taiwanese market in a limited edition in the year 2013. An exceptionally successful Multi-Vintage Vatted Malt which, like the well-known Karuizawa Asama bottlings, contains single malt whisky matured in selected European sherry casks from the last two production years 1999 and 2000 of the closed cult distillery Karuizawa. It was bottled in Natural Cask Strength at 61.7% abv by Number One Drinks Co Ltd. in the year 2013 without the addition of dyes and chill filtration.

Karuizawa Single Malt Cask Strength 1st Release 61.7% Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: Sherry with lots of dark fruits such as raisins, cherries, currant and some sweet aged oak.

Palate: More raisins and fruit such as cherries and plums as a smoke gradually builds which accompanies the palate into the finish.

Finish: Very long with those dark fruits continuing into the finish and a hint of scorched wood, but not quite smoky, right at the end.

Distillery Information

Karuizawa distillery was a Japanese whisky distillery. It was located at Miyota, a town on the southern slopes of an active complex volcano, Mount Asama, in Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Established in 1955, the distillery began production in 1956.
