        Producer Information

McWilliam's Family Winemakers (sometimes shortened to McWilliam's Wines) is a large Australian producer based in the Riverina region of New South Wales. It makes wines from vineyards around the state, in Hilltops, Orange, Tumbarumba and Canberra, as well as Riverina, and also boasts a portfolio of other brands. Wines are made from a range of Australia's famous grape varieties, including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The company dates back to 1877, when Samuel McWilliam planted his first vines near Corowa in New South Wales. In 1913, J.J. McWilliam transported 50,000 vines to Riverina, pioneering the wine region there. The Hanwood Estate winery opened as the company's home vineyard and headquarters in 1917. In 1941, McWilliam's purchased Mount Pleasant Winery in the Hunter Valley, acquiring the services of legendary Australian winemaker Maurice O'Shea. The two wineries now form part of the McWilliam's Wines group, along with Evans and Tate in Margaret River, which was acquired in 2007. Scott McWiiliam represents the sixth generation of family winemakers in the company. McWilliam's has a sizable portfolio, consisting of around 16 different ranges. The Flagships range, at the top tier of the portfolio, includes the 1842 Tumbarumba Chardonnay, the 1877 Shiraz and Shiraz – Cabernet, and the Morning Light Botrytis Sémillon. While many of the ranges focus on these more familiar varieties, McWilliam's also makes wines from more unusual varieties, like Vermentino, Touriga and Durif. McWilliam's Family Winemakers is a member of Australia's First Family of Wines.
