Ohishi Tokubetsu Reserve Whisky

From the Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan, the Ohishi Sherry Cask is a whisky distilled from rice and aged in first and second-fill sherry casks. The Ohishi Distillery uses at least 30% gohyakumanishi rice grown on its own fields, rounded out with mochi rice Kumamoto. This special release is comprised of nearly equal parts 27 year-old (29%), 10 year-old (35%), and 7 year-old (36%) Ohishi sherry casks.

Ohishi Tokubetsu Reserve Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: Notes of vanilla, butterscotch and spice.

Palate: Ohishi's Tokubetsu Reserve takes all the flavors of its Sherry Cask and magnifies them. Everything is richer and rounder in this one, with notes of marzipan, almonds, butterscotch, and toffee.

Finish: Long, citrus finish.

Distillery Information

Ohishi is a unique family-run distillery situated on the banks of the Kuma River -one Japan’s fastest flowing rivers, renowned for its superior water quality. Founded in 1872 the distillery sits in the Southwest of Japan, nestled in an idyllic mountainous countryside. They grow a distinct strain of rice at this majestic distillery called “gohyakumanishi” (5 million stones), using a unique organic style of cultivation that incorporates koi carp.
