Producer Information
Olivi - Le Buche is a wine producer at Sarteano in the southeast of Tuscany, near the border with Umbria. It makes a wide range of wines with a focus on red Bordeaux varieties, Sangiovese and Syrah. Two wines are made under the Orcia DOC. The red, the flagship Le Buche cuvée, combines Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. The white (Coreno) is an 80:20 pairing of Trebbiano and Malvasia. Most of the wines are made under the Toscana IGT classification. I Puri is a selection of monovarietal wines, only made in the best years. A wine from Pugnitello was introduced in 2005 as part of the regional drive to re-establish the variety. There is also a Chianti Colli Senesi Superiore, a Vendemmia Tardiva (late harvest) Verdicchio, and a pinkish sparkling Syrah. The estate was established in 2002 by Giuseppe Olivi and his son Riccardo. There are 27 hectares of vineyards, including 4ha (10 acres) of 60-year-old Trebbiano, Malvasia and Sangiovese. Blocks are located strategically on hilltops for optimum climate conditions. Soils vary; most red grapes are planted on clay and silt-clay, with whites on gravel.
