Detailed Description
Rum experts Plantation have bottled this rum in their Extreme Series. Made at St Lucia Distillers, this rum was made from molasses, distilled on a coffey still and tropically aged for 11 years in ex-bourbon casks before continental ageing in Ferrand French oak casks for a further 2 years. The resulting rum boasts flavours of tropical fruits, pine sap, cardamom and woody cider notes. Bottled at 58.9% with only 544 produced.
Plantation St Lucia 2007 Extreme No.4 13 Year Old Rum Tasting Notes
Nose: Powerful, it starts with a woody, spicy and fruity profile reminiscent of an old rye whiskey and calvados at the same time.
Palate: Tons of tropical fruits, papaya, passion fruit, orange, cider apple, and red berries, framed by leather, pine sap long pepper.
Finish: Dry and elegant with a more vegetal profile of sage, cardamom, dried apricot berries, and farm cider, with rich woody notes of cider and sandalwood. It then evolves to cloves, licorice, and orange zest.
Distillery Information
St Lucia Distillers was founded in 1972, and is based in the valley of Roseau on the island of St Lucia. In the 1950s, only two distilleries remained on the island, Dennery on the Barnard family plantation, and the Geest-owned facility at Roseau. These two distilleries combined to form St. Lucia Distillers Group at the location of Roseau in 1972, and it is now the island’s only remaining distillery. The Barnard family then bought out the Geest’s shares in 1992, and in 2005 they sold their shareholdings to Clico Barbados Holdings, though Laurie Barnard stayed on as Managing Director. In May 2007 the distillery suffered an arson attack, which destroyed the laboratory and blending building, and the brand was forced to work from a converted warehouse for years after.
