The nose reveals varietal characters of cherry and red flowers, as well as intriguing spicy notes deriving from the refinement. On the palate it is intense, very fresh and with an extremely smooth sip, but with a remarkable structure.

• Wine Advocate: The Fratelli Alessandria 2018 Barolo del Comune di Verduno shows extreme clarity and focus with pinpoint aromas of cassis, sour cherry, crushed stone and perfumed violets. This is a standout wine that shines bright in a vintage that is not always even when you consider its peers. The wine invigorates the palate with acidity, minerality and fine tannins. This is a terrific, albeit slightly more approachable Barolo.

• Vinous: The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Verduno is aromatic, delicate and super-expressive. Bright red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice and dried herbs open with a bit of coaxing. The 2018 offers a lovey combination of fruitiness and mid-weight Verduno structure.

Producer Information

Fratelli Alessandria is a historic Piedmontese wine estate, located in the Langhe regio of northwest Italy. It was founded at the start of the 19th Century and has been the property of the Alessandria family since 1870. It focuses on the cultivation of the Nebbiolo grape variety under the Barolo DOCG, but also produces a range of wines from other local grape varieties including Dolcetto, Barbera, Favorita and the rare red grape Pelaverga. The estate covers 12 hectares (30 acres) of land in Verduno and Monforte d'Alba. There are a total of nine different vineyard plots with a variety of different terroirs. From these vineyards, Fratelli Alessandria produces a selection of Barolo wines, including three single-cru expressions, from the Monvigliero, San Lorenzo and Gramolere vineyards. In addition to its Barolo wine range, Alessandria also produces a collection of regional wines, including those under the Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba and Langhe titles, as well as a single Verduno Pelaverga wine from 3ha (7 acres) of vines.
