Producer: Olivier Bernstein

Vintage: 2012

Size: 750ml

ABV: 13%

Varietal: Pinot Noir

    Country/Region: France, Burgundy

      Detailed Description

Though it may not be the most ambitious of the Grands Crus, it fascinates with its elegance and early equilibrium. The suppleness, the silky tannins, the powerful expression of tiny red berries all provide immense pleasure, even tenderness. The most charming of the Grands Crus.

      Producer Information

Olivier Bernstein is a relative newcomer to Burgundy wines, but has quickly made an impact. The négociant produced his first vintage in 2007, which won wide acclaim from critics like Jancis Robinson and Allen Meadows. There are six grands crus in the range: Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze from Gevrey-Chambertin, as well as Clos de Vougeot, Bonnes Mares and Clos de la Roche. Alongside the grands crus, Bernstein also has a selection of three premier crus, three white wines and a single village cuvée from Gevrey-Chambertin. The Bernstein family history is one closely connected with music – Bernstein's grandfather was the founder of a music publishing house and his parents were directors of several prominent classical music labels. In 2002, Bernstein left his career in international management and founded Domaine Mas de la Dévèze in Roussillon, France. Since then he has taken on the management of the vineyards for the majority of his sources and, in a rare opportunity, has also bought two grand cru vineyards: Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux and Mazis Chambertin. Bernstein specifically selects low-yielding vines, resulting in only a small level of production for each of his wines. Barrels are crafted out of new wood by expert cooper Stéphane Chassin and stored in cellars located in Beaune. Chassin tastes each vintage before deciding the degree of toasting to be undertaken for each wine. When ready, each wine is bottled by hand.
