The Fulignis are originally a Venetian family whose long history includes service as mercenaries in the court of Edward III of England in the 14th Century. Luigi Fuligni was given an estate in the Maremma when recruited as a general for the Duke of Tuscany in 1770, and members of the family moved to Montalcino to make wine in 1900. The Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino spends around 30 months in large oak barrels, and is then aged for a further 18 months in bottle.
