      Detailed Description

An almost opaque deep red colour. A very intense aroma with balsamic notes of resin, cedar, tobacco box and shrubby touches. Additional spicy notes of black pepper, clove and ginger integrate with undertones of cocoa and chocolate, courtesy of a good maturation. In the mouth, this wine has excellent volume and firm, powerful tannins. Its well-integrated acidity balances notes of resin and spices and invites a long finish of great persistence.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The 2015 Port Quinta do Seixo is a blend of Touriga Franca (40%), Touriga Nacional (28%), old vines (15%), Tinta Roriz (12%) and Sousão (5%). It comes in with 100 grams per liter of residual sugar. In bottle for about two months when seen, this was opened (not decanted) about three hours in advance of tasting. It has a nice backbone, showing tight and a bit hard, but its relatively rich fruit counters with classic flavors. Many are pointing to Douro Superior for the best Ports in 2015, but this Cima Corgo offering has lovely fruit as well as the good concentration to balance the structure. This isn't the most elegant Porto, though; for that, try its sibling the Quinta do Porto, also from Sogrape (Ferreira). This might be approachable early, but you really need to let it sit for at least a decade or more for better results.
      • James Suckling: Grippy, chewy and pleasantly rustic, this sports lots of licorice root, roasted alder and apple wood and tar notes around a core of steeped plum and warmed fig fruit. Reveals a Turkish coffee echo through the finish, with the grip on full display. A throwback style. Best from 2030 through 2050.

      Producer Information

Sandeman is a Port producer based in the Vila Nova de Gaia in Porto. It makes a wide variety of Ports, ranging from Ruby and Tawny to a whole host of vintage expressions. The house was founded in 1790 by George Sandeman, who started out selling Port and Sherry in London before relocating to Portugal in 1811. Today, the house is run by the seventh-generation George Sandeman, who worked in Porto and Jerez before joining the company in 1977. The cellars remain at their original location in Vila Nova de Gaia, the traditional home of most of the big Port houses (Dow's, Graham's and Taylor's are all based here). The area's temperate maritime climate helps age the ports slowly before they are shipped around the world. The cellar floors are a mixture of oak and soil to help maintain the temperature and humidity, and also provides an easy surface on which to roll barrels around. Sandeman's vineyards are located in the Douro Valley. In the winery, Sandeman also produce multiple styles of Sherry and Madeira. In the late 19th Century, Sandeman acquired a Sherry bodegas in Spain which significantly expanded the portfolio of the company.
