It is known for its consistently high quality range of wines produced from Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are just a small part of the Man O'War estate, which was formed from four adjoining farms in the 1980s. Today, it covers around 4500 acres (1800 hectares) of complex hilly topography. There are also estate vineyards on the neighboring Ponui Island. In all, Man O'War has around 60ha (150 acres) of vines, planted in 75 different hillside blocks. Each has a distinct soil profile and mesoclimate, with carefully selected rootstocks, clones and planting densities.
