      Reviews:

      • Burghound: This too is deftly wooded with an ultra-floral-suffused nose that speaks primarily of both red and dark berries, newly turned earth and a hint of humus. There is excellent volume to the denser and muscular yet relatively refined broad-shouldered flavors that culminate in a youthfully austere, compact and gorgeously long finish. The supporting tannins are dense but admirably fine-grained and while the overall impression is not as classy as that of the Grands Echézeaux, there is a bit more here. Patience is strongly advised.
      • Decanter: From a 1.37ha parcel in the section of the Clos known as Les Marets Hauts, next to Drouhin-Laroze. Made with a little more than half whole clusters, gentle extraction and two winters in mostly new casks, this is a wine of superb elegance, with a mixture of ripe black and red berry fruit, a silky texture on the palate, along with a fresh, concentrated feel that lasts through the lingering finish.

      Producer Information

Domaine d'Eugénie is a wine producer in Burgundy's Vosne-Romanée known for its Pinot Noir. It was formed in 2006 from the esteemed vineyards of Domaine René Engel after the death of its proprietor, Philippe Engel, which included premier and grand cru plots. Francois Pinault, owner of Château Latour, bought the vineyards but not the winery. Following Engel's death in May 2005, the 2005 vintage of Domaine René Engel was sold in bulk. After the acquisition of the vineyards, Domaine D'Eugénie operated in an interim space at Domaine Lupé-Cholet in Nuits-Saint-Georges for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 vintages. In the interim, D'Eugénie established its own winery back in Vosne-Romanée, at the former Clos Frantin vineyard and buildings. These formerly belonged to Beaune-based wine estate Albert Bichot. Bichot retained the Clos Frantin brand. D'Eugénie upgraded all the facilities and renamed the monopole vineyard to Clos d'Eugénie. The domain farms 6.5 hectares (16 acres) in Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot and Flagey-Échezeaux. It produces six wines from five appellations: the grand crus Échezeaux, Grands Échezeaux and Clos de Vougeot, the premier cru Aux Brûlées and Vosne-Romanée Villages. In 2009, several parcels of vineyards began the conversion to biodynamic farming practices.
