                            Producer Information

Frecciarossa was born in 1919, when my great-grandfather Mario Odero fell in love with the hills of the Oltrepò Pavese , he who until then traded coal between his city of origin, Genoa, and England, where he lived. After the First World War, having returned to Italy, Mario decided to buy an estate in the Oltrepò, which had always been "the countryside of the Genoese". So buy this beautiful nineteenth-century estate , with a particular name that actually arises from an error. Frecciarossa derives from the erroneous transcription of the ancient toponym Fraccia Rossa , i.e. "red landslide", meaning the clayey earth , crossed by ferruginous veins, frequently subject to the humors of underground waters. An oversight in the land registry and Frecciarossa becomes the name of our hill. This project excites Giorgio Odero , my grandfather, Mario's son. He graduated in Agriculture to be able to follow the estate's vineyards and then went to France to perfect his craft, because no one like the French then and still today knows how to make pinot noir , the grape variety with which he had decided to compete. He has an experience in Burgundy and then in Champagne, learns, comes back with new ideas, focuses on quality. The wines are sold by the bottle, which was not at all usual at the time. Hitchcock drinks them at Villa d'Este, he is kind enough to let Giorgio know how much he appreciates them. It is the 1920s and Frecciarossa is already a well-known brand outside the borders of the Oltrepò Pavese. At the end of Prohibition, in 1933, they were among the very first Italian wines to enter the American market, as evidenced by the number 19 of the Export Mark . My mother Margherita Odero supports her father, she has the same tenacity and the same passion. In 1990 she renovated the cellar and began to avail herself of the consultancy of the oenologist Franco Bernabei , who in 2000 was replaced by Gianluca Scaglione , still part of the team together with Cristiano Garella . A few years ago I too returned to this land that has always been home to me, which I love as the generations who handed it over to me loved it.
