Producer Information
A great master in the world of natural wine in Beaujolais, Georges Descombes began by working in a bottling company, an experience which allowed him to taste the wines of the great names of Beaujolais. Several pins later, the revelation came to Marcel Lapierre , a founding member of the natural wine community, who therefore gave him the energy to take over the family estate in 1988. It was only from 1993 that he began devotes himself entirely to his own field. Although discreet, the winemaker is today a star in his region. Georges Descombes comes from a family of winegrowers established in Villié-Morgon for several generations. The Georges Descombes estate therefore totals 16 hectares of vines, the majority of which are in the Morgon appellation. The winemaker then decided to devote himself entirely to his vines and also worked in the Régnié, Beaujolais-Villages, Beaujolais and Chiroubles appellations. Like Lapierre, Jean Paul and Charly Thevenet or David Large , his colleagues in the region, Georges Descombes works in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner. Organic cultivation (without certification), tillage, the winegrower has always prohibited the use of synthetic chemicals in his vines. In the cellar, Georges Descombes practices natural winemaking. Its harvest is cooled and the reds all undergo the traditional carbonic maceration of Beaujolais and the vinification is mainly done in concrete vats. For the Vieilles Vignes, Brouilly and Morgon vintages, which represent a good part of its production, the wines rest in barrels of 2 to 10 wines for a period close to 9 months. These other vintages are aged in concrete vats. Little interventionist for more than twenty years, he wants each terroir to express itself: little or no addition of sulfur for wines which evolve towards greater purity and more expressive fruit. Great wines from the Beaujolais terroirs!
