Jacquesson | Cuvee 745 - NV

On the nose bright citrus fruits come through with rich yeasty notes. The palate displays grapefruit, green apples, lemon and brioche. The finish is balanced with refreshing acidity and a creamy texture.

• James Suckling: notes of poached pear, baked apple, grapefruit, lemon rind and pistachio. Fine bubbles with crisp acidity and a pure, fruity core.

• Essi Avellan: apple jam and cider, and peardrops. At first, a note of oxidation prevails, but after some time in the glass, it shows more of the fruit.

Producer Information

Jacquesson is a Champagne producer in Dizy in the Marne Valley (just north of Épernay), with a relatively short history going back to 1978, when the Chiquet family bought the marque and moved it to their family estate. In 1988, Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet took over and have overseen a rapid rise to prominence: in the 2005 La Revue Des Vins De France, Jacquesson was rated third best of all houses after Bollinger and Krug. There is no conventional non-vintage cuvée – instead Jacquesson makes the Cuvée 700, which is more of a series of yearly releases blended from several vintages. Each of the 700 wines features the principal trio of Champagne varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, though there is considerable variation in terms of exact percentages. Jacquesson also produces a 700 DT range, with "DT" standing for Dégorgement Tardif, or late disgorging. Jacquesson also have a range of single-vineyard wines from Dizy, including a rosé; a vintage Blanc de Blancs from Avize; and a vintage wine from across the company's vineyard holdings in the Grande Vallée de la Marne, and in the Côte des Blancs. The base wine is vinified in large old oak casks. Smaller 500-liter oak casks may be used for extended aging or stocking of reserve wines before bottling.
