Producer Information
Spring Mountain Vineyard is a historic Napa Valley wine producer located on the eastern slopes of Spring Mountain. The estate received international recognition when its Chardonnay placed fourth among French and American white wines at the historic Judgment of Paris in 1976. Today it is best known for its red wines produced exclusively from estate-grown fruit, especially its signature wine, Elivette, a Bordeaux-style blend. The property is expansive, covering nearly 25 percent of the total planted land of the Spring Mountain District. The estate was originally four separate but adjoining vineyards – the highest, La Perla, was established in 1870 at an elevation of 1600ft (490m). Below this lies the Beringer brothers' original vineyard planted in 1882, Chateau Chevalier planted in 1891, and Miravalle, the lowest vineyard at 400ft (120m), planted in 1885. Altogether, the estate spans 845 acres (341 hectares), which is planted to around 226 acres (91ha) of vineyard land. This is further divided into 135 separate vineyard blocks based soil type, sun exposure and differences in mesoclimate. The grapes from each block remain separate during fermentation and aging – they are only blended during the final assemblage process. The majority of the estate's vineyards are planted to red varieties – primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot – but select blocks of Syrah, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Semillon, Viognier, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc are also planted. Spring Mountain Vineyard served as part of the set for prime-time 1980s drama Falcon Crest. It has been owned by Huneeus Vinters since 2016.
