      Detailed Description

Sesti Brunello di Montalcino 2004 is a full-bodied, mature Sangiovese from the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG of Tuscany.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: Smoke, tar, licorice, grilled herbs and wild cherries flow from Sesti’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino. This is an especially dense, full-bodied wine that shows off remarkable depth and richness in its endless layers of fruit. The finish is sweet and long. This, too, is another wine that will require patience, but it is a gem.
      • James Suckling: Shows very ripe fruit and spicy character on the nose. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and rich fruit. Lots of sultana character here. A little rustic, but interesting. Needs a little more time.

      Producer Information

Sesti is a Tuscan wine producer located on the southern slopes of Montalcino. Giuseppe Maria Sesti founded the estate in 1987 and since then has gained an international reputation for his Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Toscana IGT wines from varieties including Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Giuseppe's background as an astrologist has influenced his farming and winemaking practices which follow the lunar calendar. The idyllic Sesti estate includes the Castle of Argiano, which is featured on the wines' labels, and spans 102 hectares (254 acres), only nine hectares (22 acres) of which are planted to grapevines. The first vines were planted in 1991 near the castle on south-facing slopes. The estate makes three traditional 100-percent Sangiovese wines – a Rosso di Montalcino, a standard Brunello di Montalcino and the Brunello Riserva Phenomena. These are aged in oak barrels for differing lengths of time, and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Sesti produces additional 100 percent Sangiovese wines carrying the Toscana IGT designation – Grangiovese, Monteleccio, and Rosato – as well as a Sauvignon Blanc, a Bordeaux-style blend called Terra di Siena, and a Grappa di Brunello. The estate produces around 5000 cases annually. Since 1999, Sesti has been operated with the help of Giuseppe's daughter Elisa.
