      Detailed Description

There is fine richness, volume and concentration to the relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess a highly seductive texture as well as excellent depth and length on the impeccably well-balanced finale.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: The purity, intensity and clarity of finishing fruit is striking. From vines planted in 1920 (in Mazoyeres), the 2005 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is as high in alcohol – at around 13.5% – as wine from this (or for that matter any other) vintage at Truchot gets. Like this year’s Sentiers, it only finished malo in December, which surprised Truchot who is used to early malos. Meat, cedar, licorice and distilled plum aromas usher in a palate of refinement but underlying firmness, displaying blueberries, tiny purple plums and spiced meats. The finish grips with vividly fresh, spiced fruit, and salty minerality, building simultaneously with deep, rolling bass-tones of steamed stones, roasted game, and beef marrow. This seems not to be suffering from the bottling, but you can be sure it will take some years before it really displays its potential, which should encompass at least two decades of age-worthiness.
        • Allen Meadows: A pretty and relatively expressive nose is ripe yet fresh with its array of earth, spice, game and underbrush-inflected dark berry fruit suffused nose that is still largely if not completely primary in character. There is fine richness, volume and concentration to the relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess a highly seductive texture as well as excellent depth and length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This beauty is very clearly still on the way up though it's not so far away that it couldn't be enjoyed now with 30 minutes or so in a decanter. That said I would advise waiting because while this is already excellent it's potentially going to be great in time.

        Producer Information

(Domaine) Jacky Truchot-Martin is a now defunct wine producer formerly based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, crafting a range of minimal-intervention Pinot Noir wines from local vineyards. Bottles of his wines (which are increasingly rare) are much sought-after on the secondary market. The eponymous Jacky Truchot returned from French military service in the 1960s and began helping his cousin, Henri Mauffré (at what was then Domaine Mauffré or, later, Mauffré-Truchot) in the cellars of his domaine. By the early 1970s, Truchot had taken over from his cousin and the domaine was renamed J. Truchot-Martin with labels sometimes displaying "Jacky Truchot" although the former (J. Truchot-Martin, without the "domaine") was the official title. Truchot made wines at the domaine until he retired in 2005. He sold of all his holdings bar a small portion of his vines in Clos Sorbés, which he kept for his own production and consumption (the vineyard was close to his home in Morey). Until his retirement, Truchot made a number of wines from parcels across the Côte de Nuits but mainly focussed around Morey including the grands crus Clos de la Roche and neighboring Charmes-Chambertin (the latter often alongside the "Vieilles Vignes" title). Other wines included the Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Sentiers as well as Morey's Clos Sorbes and Les Blanchards. Truchot was a minimal-intervention producer (his wines were rarely fined, filtered or sulphured) who garnered a reputation for lightweight but aromatic and beguiling Pinot Noir wines.
