        Producer Information

Château Pavie Macquin is a producer in the Saint-Émilion appellation with premier grand cru classé B status. It is under current ownership of the Corre-Macquin family. Located in Saint-Émilion the right bank of Bordeaux, the Grand Vin of Pavie Macquin is a Merlot-dominant Bordeaux red blend with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. A second wine is produced under the Les Chênes de Macquin label that translates to "the Oaks of Macquin". Originally, Château Pavie Macquin was part of the estate of the 19th Century négociant Ferdinand Bouffard. It was bought by Albert Macquin, who achieved individual acclaim as a pioneer in the use of grafted roots stocks to combat the phylloxera epidemic. Pavie Macquin now borders two other Pavie estates, Château Pavie and Château Pavie-Decesse, which are both owned by Gérard Perse. During the 1990s, the quality of Château Pavie Macquin improved significantly. This was attributed to the additions of Stéphane Derencourt and Nicolas Theinpont to the winemaking team. As a result, the château was promoted from grand cru classé to premier grand cru classé B in the controversial 2006 review of the Saint-Émilion classifications. After several other producers challenged the impartiality of the judges, the classification was declared void in 2009 and the 1996 review was to be used. In 2012, a new classification maintained the premier grand cru classé B status of Pavie Macquin (however this too has been challenged).
