        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Ausone opens with notes of sweaty leather, iron ore, Marmite toast and prunes with hints of dried herbs and charcuterie plus a medicinal waft. Full-bodied, the palate has a very racy line of acidity and well-played, chewy tannins supporting the maturing fruit, finishing with an herbal lift.
        • James Suckling: The nose is so deep and almost endless with dried strawberries, blueberries, and incense. Citrus too. Some prunes. Full body, with chewy yet polished tannin quality and tension. Beautiful focus and balance with a richness and delicacy at the same time. Something almost Burgundian. It's the purity of fruit. 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot.

        Producer Information

The estate took the name of a famous Latin poet of the 4th century AD, Ausone, who is said to have owned a house on the very spot where the castle stands today. It is undoubtedly an old vineyard but it took a long time to come out of anonymity. From the end of the 18th century, its history becomes clearer: it is successively the property of the Cantenat then of the Lafargue and still currently belongs to the descendants of these families. In the middle of the 19th century, informal classifications show it among the very best wines of Saint-Emilion. However, it was not until the 1970s and the arrival of Pascal Delbeck as manager to see Ausone appear among the greatest wines of Bordeaux. The current owner, Mr. Vauthier, has taken this wine even further.
