      Detailed Description

Terroir de Familia Syrah, a wine with an intense and deep purple red color, aromas of ripe black cherries, sour cherries, leather and black pepper. It has abundant and firm tannins, spice and meaty flavors at the end of the mouth.

      Producer Information

Family vineyard of 50 hectares whose production is added to that of over 200 small winemakers. Founded in 1775, it is one of the ten oldest wineries in Spain, which currently holds vintages from 1881 or 1956. A winery that has been able to adapt to modern times and revolutionize, in the eighties, the local Canarian wine becoming the winery most awarded in the history of the islands in the competitions of the International Wine Organization. On the island of Lanzarote, the volcanic eruption of 1730 covered the land with ashes where today it is cultivated in La Geria. The lapilli or "picón" cover the fertile land bringing a great wealth to the soil. "Socos" and "chabocos" are structures built by hand to protect the vine from the trade winds, which characterize the spectacular landscape of La Geria. The vines are "ungrafted" proving that the phylloxera disease did not reach the Canaries, as it did in the rest of Europe, being the root and the plant of the same variety. The main prefillossera varietals are Volcanic Malvasia, it is endemic to Lanzarote after its disappearance from the rest of the Canary Islands. It adapts perfectly to the volcanic environment of the island. From its nature and high degree of acidity, unique and elegant white wines are obtained, young or to be kept. Listàn negro, an exclusive Canarian variety prevalent in Tenerife. Planted in a soil like that of the lava sands of Lanzarote, it offers a rosé and red wine, light and aromatic, different from the rest of Spanish wines. Vijariego, a rare species in the Canaries, of which Lanzarote cultivates 60% of the total. The unique composition gives the wine a unique personality, an authentic oenological archeology. The wines of Bodega El Grifo, all with Denomination of Origin of Lanzarote, are elaborated with artisan yeasts and obtained from a single variety of grape (except Ariana) coming in all cases from prefillossera vines, planted ungrafted.
