      Detailed Description

The palate is an explosion of delicate flavors, nice and delightful mouthfeel. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish.

        Producer Information

Mastrojanni is a Tuscan wine estate located at Castelnuovo dell'Abate in the far southeast of the Montalcino municipality, best known for its wines from the Sangiovese grape variety. Gabriele Mastrojanni founded the estate in 1975, when he purchased the San Pio and Loreto estates and planted the first vines. The combined property now covers 96 hectares, of which 33ha (81.5 of 237 acres) is planted to vineyards. Here, an altitude of 150-420 meters (500-1400 feet) above sea level allows for aspects facing all points of the compass. 17ha (42 acres) of these vines qualify for Brunello di Montalcino. As well as the Brunello, the portfolio features single-vineyard cuvées from the Loreto and the Schiena d'Asino vineyards. A Rosso di Montalcino completes the roster of Sangiovese wines. San Pio is an IGT Toscana combining 80 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with Sangiovese, and the range is completed by a passito made from Moscato, Malvasia di Candia and Sauvignon Blanc. The cellar forms part of the core estate buildings and is partly dug into the hillside. Grapes are mostly fermented in cement tanks, with a selection vinified in wooden vats to extract further tannins from the wood. The wine is then racked into large wooden barrels where it remains for up to 42 months, followed by least six further months in bottle before release. Since 2008, the estate has been part of Gruppo Illy, best known for its coffee, though Francesco Illy had been owner-winemaker at the neighboring Podere Le Ripi since 1997.
