Producer Information
De Bortoli is a prominent Australian wine producer based in the Riverina region of New South Wales. It makes a wide range of wines from around the country from classic Australian varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay. However, De Bortoli is most famous for its flagship wine, the botrytis-affected Noble One Semillon, one of the most highly regarded and best-known dessert wines from the New World. The estate was founded in 1928 by immigrants from northern Italy, and came into its own under the leadership of Deen de Bortoli (1936-2003), a leading figure in the Australian wine industry in the 20th Century. Today, De Bortoli is owned and operated by the third generation of the family, members of which are involved in everything from viticulture to export. De Bortoli has vineyards in numerous Australian regions, the most famous being at Riverina, where Noble One is made, along with a range of other wines. There are also 240 hectares (595 acres) of vineyards in the Yarra Valley, which are planted to Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, and 180 hectares (445 acres) in the King Valley. On top of this, De Bortoli has vineyards in Heathcote, Rutherglen as well as owning land the Hunter Valley. The extensive portfolio of still, sparkling and fortified wines includes various brand names like Windy Peak and Willowglen as well as several ranges that hold the De Bortoli name. Winemaking techniques vary greatly depending on the wine being made.
