At the same time, it’s also home to a vibrant wine community of innovative producers that want to push the boundaries , in the pursuit of making more diverse and thrilling wines. In the 1990’s with the spread of industrial viticulture practices in the region, a group of renegades decided to defend the opposite view, a viticulture with utmost respect for nature. This rebellious spirit against “the way things have always been done” brings to memory the Punk movement of the 1970’s ; a counter-culture focused on non- conformity , independence and do-it-yourself views. The movement still resonates, especially in wine. LECO PUNK reflects these ideals through minimalistic organic viticulture to express the full blast, naked varietal flavours of the indigenous grapes from Rioja.
