Detailed Description

The gang at Danish indie bottler 1423 has a talent for selecting impressive rums, demonstrated once again with this marvellous Jamaican offering! Pot distilled from molasses in 2015, the rum carries the EMB marque, and with its high ester levels, would most commonly be used for blending. This expression spent its time resting in a single ex-bourbon cask, where it remained until bottling in 2022, with a total of 213 cask strength bottles released.

Jamaica 2015 EMB - 1423 Single Barrel Selection | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Very big concentration emerges for this rum which is nevertheless rather young. The woody taste, passed to the solvent and then to the wax, is vibrant, intense; it radiates with fruity waves that leave a golden dust of sweet spices in their wake.

Palate: the fullness and warmth of this rum live up to the expectations set by the nose. The American oak brings its aromas with clarity and efficiency, without the alcohol disturbing it. Its tannins are very precisely dispensed, perfectly dosed, just what is needed to bring a little vegetable freshness. The blond tobacco then takes over, naturally followed by a vanilla that does not fall into the trap of caricature, then by almond and stone, and finally by a slightly salty molasses.

Finish: leaves a little more room for the distillate, and we discover a fermentation that has developed candied fruit, as well as a hint of olive in the length.

Distillery Information

1423 began as a hobby but is now a leading Danish spirit importer and distributor, established in 2008. The business is home to hundreds of rum barrels and helps brands like La Maison du Rhum, Bristol Spirits, and Worthy Park reach a wider consumer base. 1423 also bottles its own rum, beginning with a few hundred bottles of a Barbados-Trinidad blend, which was bottled in November 2008 and released at the beginning of 2009. The number of the sample was 14423, but an error meant it was listed as 1423 which gave the company its name.
