      Detailed Description

Composed mainly of Merlot, this wine is round, flamboyant and very smooth. It ages gracefully and develops truffle aromas.

        Producer Information

Château Grand Corbin Despagne is a Grand Cru Classé estate in the north of the Saint-Émilion appellation in Bordeaux. The estate was founded by the Despagne family in 1812 and today remains family-owned. The Château Grand Corbin Despagne grand vin is a Merlot-predominant blend, with smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are harvested by hand from vines aged over 20 years old that produce concentrated flavor compounds. After fermentation, the wine is aged in 40 to 60 percent new oak barrels for between 12-18 months. Production of the grand vin totals approximately 70,000 to 100,000 bottles per year. The first vintage of the château's second wine, Petit Corbin-Despagne, was produced in 1998. This second wine is typically a blend of 70-percent Merlot and 30-percent Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested from a selection of vines aged between 10 to 20 years old, producing between 25,000 to 40,000 bottles per year. Vines aged 10 years and under are the source of Château Grand Corbin Despagne's third wine, Château Laporte. The château's vineyards are made up of two different soil compositions: the first of clay and sand overlying iron oxide-rich sandstone, and the second of ancient sands above a layer of clay. Since 2010, the estate has gradually introduced organic farming methods to its vineyards. Château Grand Corbin Despagne's portfolio of chateaux also includes Château Le Chemin in Pomerol and Château Ampélia in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux Castillon appellation.
