Producer Information
Cornerstone Cellars is a boutique winery located in Napa Valley in the sub-region of Yountville. The brand was founded in 1991 by two Memphis-based physicians, Mike Dragutsky and David Sloas. Cornerstone produces a range of wines from prestigious appellations within the Napa Valley, with a particular focus on Cabernet Sauvignon. The company's initial vintage was made with a surplus of Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from Dunn Vineyards. The wines were well received by critics and collectors, so Dragutsky and Sloas decided to continue commercial wine production. Today, the estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon wines with fruit from the same Howell Mountain vineyard, as well as from prestigious Napa Valley sub-regions including Oakville and Rutherford. Cornerstone's focus is on varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, typically aged for up to 22 months in mostly new French oak barrels. The estate also produces a range of wines from other varieties, and has produced a Sauvignon Blanc from fruit sourced from the Farina Vineyard in Sonoma County, a Grenache – Syrah – Mourvèdre blend and Viognier from the El Dorado AVA in California's Sierra Foothills, and Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. The second label is called Stepping Stone, and it produces one-off wines from vineyards in the Napa Valley. Vineyard sources and grape varieties vary from year to year depending on what is available.
