Red Wine: 2014 | Chateau Charmail

Extremely dark purple with lilac and violet reflections. Complex, almost creamy bouquet, shows many black berries and also a certain depth. Already very well balanced on the palate, showing supportive tannins and a peppery breed in the extract, this also gives it quite a great length.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: The 2014 Charmail has a ripe, quite opulent (for the vintage) bouquet with raspberry, crushed strawberry and melted tar scents. There is great precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with plush, supple tannin, cloaked in blackberry and raspberry fruit, brown spices and a pleasant chewiness towards the finish. Maybe a little rustic compared to its peers, but I think this will age extremely well.
        • James Suckling: Very bright and aromatic with currants and rose petals. Medium-bodied, extremely juicy and savory. Lovely finish.

        Producer Information

Château Charmail is an estate in the Haut-Médoc located on the Left Bank of the Gironde river. The château's portfolio includes a grand vin made primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a second wine, Tours de Charmail. The vineyard dates back to the 17th Century and now comprises 28 hectares (68 acres) of vines planted in a single parcel. It faces south and is planted to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and a small quantity of Petit Verdot. The soils are largely made up of gravel and clay and, along with the mild climate, are perfectly suited to grape growing. The vineyard is hand-harvested, and the grapes are fed through a gravity flow system for processing. After cold maceration and fermentation, the wines are aged for 12 months in one-third new French oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. Approximately 10,000 cases of the Château Charmail grand vin is produced per year.
