        Producer Information

The altitude of Fuentenebro, a mining town located at the highest point of the D.O. Ribera del Duero is where the name Milsetentayseis comes from, the new red wine made by Alma de Carraovejas. Old vineyards are the starting point of this project where they make a unique wine which reflects the essence of this land growing hundred year old vines that have been recovered from vines growing at an altitude of over 1,000 metres. At 850 metres above sea level you can easily go from 34°C during the day to 8°C at night, so it is easy to get an idea of how extreme conditions are for this high altitude viticulture. Because of this, the plant is pushed to the limit, creating a high quality raw material, including native varieties like Tempranillo, Albillo Real, Monastrell and Garnacha. Part of this uniqueness is also due to the soils, which are rich in minerals, but poor in nutrients, and made up of clay, muscovite, quartz and mica. Thanks to this combination, which is unique in the world, the vines are forced to give their best, creating unique and inimitable wines with tension and a very marked character. To make Milsetentayseis Tinto, each plot is handled separately, understanding how to extract the maximum possible expression. This will only be possible with an exhaustive knowledge of the area, understanding the unique features of each plant and soil. This is the only way to bring out the full essence of Milsetentayseis Tinto in the winery. Only the best grapes are taken to the winery, and they are vinified in concrete, wood or stainless steel (depending on their characteristics). Finally, Milsetentayseis Tinto is aged for 18 months in French oak foudres, where the profile and use is determined by the character of each vintage. In the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in Castilla y León, nature has set a challenge in Fuentenebro. And Alma de Carraovejas was willing to take it on. The result couldn’t be better. Open a bottle and see for yourself.
