Producer Information
Mountain View Winery is a producer established in Morgan Hill, California in 1978. It manages 19 vineyards in various regions around the state including Monterey, Amador County, Carneros, Lake County and Central Coast. Many of the wines are made from a single variety from a single vineyard. The winery has been owned since 2010 by Angelo Pera. He is also managing director and co-winemaker along with Philip Zorn. Since acquiring the business, Pera has added a number of small micro-vineyards (sub-200 cases) to the portfolio to showcase appellation character. The portfolio includes a trio of Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the Slide Ranch Vineyard in Paso Robles, and the Central Coast and California AVAs. There are also a brace of Pinot Noirs; a Central Coast (from the Santa Maria Valley) and a Chalone bottling from Mountain View's Dryhole vineyard. A Central Coast Merlot and a medium-bodied California Red Blend also feature. The latter, rather unusually, is based on Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a little Ruby Red. A rosé is made from Central Valley Zinfandel. The white wines include unoaked Chardonnays from Monterey (The Tecolote Vineyard) and California, and a California Pinot Grigio. A California white blend is made from Pinot Grigio, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and a little Gewurztraminer.
