Reduction pushes the fruit to the background though it does seem notably ripe. The intense, muscular and vibrant medium weight flavors brim with minerality on the powerful, serious and structured finale that flashes a touch of austerity. This isn't as concentrated as either the Blanchards or the Millandes, but it's got slightly better depth and persistence. Patience required however.

- Vinous: The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Aux Chezaux 1er Cru perhaps does not convey the same cohesion as Arlaud’s other Premier Crus at the moment, a little earthier and more broody. The palate is sweet and ripe with rounded black cherries and crème de cassis notes, though it needs a little more precision and terroir expression on the finish.

Domaine Arlaud is a family-owned wine producer based in Morey-Saint-Denis, in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits subregion. Also known as Domaine Arlaud Père & Fils, it is best known for its Pinot Noir vineyards both in Morey and in neighboring Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. These include holdings in the Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Charmes-Chambertin, and Bonnes-Mares grand cru sites.In 1949, Joseph Arlaud acquired vineyard land as a wedding gift and, over time, was able to extend the family holdings and purchase the estate's headquarters – a 14th-Century cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges – in 1966. Vinification and barrel-aging, however, take place in a modern cellar in Morey-Saint-Denis.Joseph Arlaud was succeeded by son Hervé and wife Brigitte in 1982. Latterly, their children, Cyprien, Romain and Bertille, have all taken a hand in the running of the estate with Cyprien taking over management in 2013.
