Producer Information
Chateau du Cartillon is located on the itinerary which follows the Medoc Chateaux in the Bordeaux area, in the village of Lamarque, halfway between the Margaux and Saint-Julien vineyards. In the heart of the Haut-Medoc appellation, the 69 hectares property adjoins three prestigious representatives of the Moulis appellation : the Chateaux of Poujeaux, Maucaillou and Chasse Spleen. The quality of the soil, which has long been recognised as such, gave the Chateau du Cartillon a reputation as early as the 19th century. In 1850 this Cru Bourgeois was clearly mentioned in the first edition of the Fe´ret Guide. At that time the property was owned by Monsieur Alexandre de Bethmann (1805-1870) who was Mayor of Bordeaux from 1867 to 1870. It is reported in the Guide : "located on a gravely terrain, producing one of the best wines in Lamarque".
