Matured for more than a quarter of a century, this 2016 release of the popular Islay Single Malt marries the signature Islay peat with sweet vanilla notes from the American bourbon casks in which it was matured. After a quarter of a century ageing in oloroso sherry and American oak casks, this spectacular Laphroaig single malt was ready for bottling. Possessing all the intense smokiness you know and love of Laphroaig's whisky refined by a lengthy maturation, this expression is highly regarded indeed.

Nose: Sherry to the fore with a peaty tang not far behind.

Palate: Bursts of peat subdued by sherried sweetness before a spicy apple fruitiness takes over.

Finish: Very long and slightly dry.

Distillery Information

Laphroaig distillery is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky distillery. It is named after the area of land at the head of Loch Laphroaig on the south coast of the island of Islay. The meaning of the toponym is unknown, but a commonly suggested etymology includes the elements "lag" (Gaelic: hollow), "breid" (Norse: 'breidd' breadth) and "vik" (Norse: 'vík' bay), implying an original Gaelic form something like "Lag Bhròdhaig" (the hollow of Broadbay). The name may be related to a placename on the east coast of Islay, "Pròaig", again suggested as meaning "broad bay". The distillery and brand are owned and operated by Beam Suntory, the American subsidiary of Japan's Suntory Holdings.
