Chartrons were 18th century Bordeaux wine merchants from the Medoc, an ideal trade region on the left bank of the Garonne River. The Garonne served as the most historically strategic shipping route for wines from Northern Spain, southwest France to the Great Atlantic. The Barons, families who owned properties throughout the region, invested their fortunes and lives in growing southwest France to become the pace setting region of winemaking for the entire world.
