      Detailed Description

The earthy, tobacco, cassis, thyme and cherry pipe nose hits the spot. Soft, round and requiring no decanting time, this is slightly more than fully mature.

      Producer Information

Château Haut-Marbuzet is a well-regarded, long-time Cru Bourgeois wine estate based in Saint-Estèphe, on the so-called Left Bank of the Gironde estuary, in Bordeaux's northern Médoc region. The estate produces a red wine made principally from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Although the property has existed since the 18th Century, its history as a quality producer is usually dated from its acquisition 1952 by Hervé Duboscq, whose heirs still own the estate, alongside Châteaux Chambert-Marbuzet and Tour de Marbuzet. The Haut-Marbuzet property was one of the original Crus Bourgeois named in 1932 and promoted to the Crus Grand Bourgeois Exceptionnels in 1978. It was further confirmed as one of nine Crus Bourgeois Exceptionnels in 2003. The estate's grand vin is generally regarded as being comparable in quality to many Cru Classé wines. The vineyard itself is situated between Château Montrose and Cos d'Estournel, and has around 40 hectares (99 acres) of vineyard planted 50 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 percent to Merlot and 10 percent to Cabernet Franc. Grapes are generally harvested as late as possible, and aged in all-new oak barrels for 18 months. This ripeness level, creamy oak and high Merlot content give a voluptuous wine that is approachable in its youth. The second wine is Château MacCarthy, made from younger vines. The name originally applied to a distinct property, which was purchased in 1988 and added to Haut-Marbuzet.
