        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: There are only 150 cases of Truchot’s 2005 Morey-St.-Denis Vieilles Vignes, which offers pungent incense and resin along with high toned almond and pistachio and pure, sweetly ripe plum and black cherry. On the palate, this displays the anticipated creaminess and refinement of tannin, along with the most overt chalkiness of any of the wines here today.
        • John Gilman: This has always been Monsieur Truchot’s favorite Morey premier cru, and it too is excellent in 2005. The bouquet is deep and pure, as it offers up a very transparent potpourri of red berries, cherries and red plums, herb tones, a touch of gamebird (with which it will make an excellent pairing in about seven years), complex soil tones and a floral topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and nicely reserved, with great nascent complexity, fine tannins, bright acids, and excellent length and grip on the soil-driven finish. Exceptional quality.

        Producer Information

(Domaine) Jacky Truchot-Martin is a now defunct wine producer formerly based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, crafting a range of minimal-intervention Pinot Noir wines from local vineyards. Bottles of his wines (which are increasingly rare) are much sought-after on the secondary market. The eponymous Jacky Truchot returned from French military service in the 1960s and began helping his cousin, Henri Mauffré (at what was then Domaine Mauffré or, later, Mauffré-Truchot) in the cellars of his domaine. By the early 1970s, Truchot had taken over from his cousin and the domaine was renamed J. Truchot-Martin with labels sometimes displaying "Jacky Truchot" although the former (J. Truchot-Martin, without the "domaine") was the official title. Truchot made wines at the domaine until he retired in 2005. He sold of all his holdings bar a small portion of his vines in Clos Sorbés, which he kept for his own production and consumption (the vineyard was close to his home in Morey). Until his retirement, Truchot made a number of wines from parcels across the Côte de Nuits but mainly focussed around Morey including the grands crus Clos de la Roche and neighboring Charmes-Chambertin (the latter often alongside the "Vieilles Vignes" title). Other wines included the Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Sentiers as well as Morey's Clos Sorbes and Les Blanchards. Truchot was a minimal-intervention producer (his wines were rarely fined, filtered or sulphured) who garnered a reputation for lightweight but aromatic and beguiling Pinot Noir wines.
