        • Peter Moser: Dark ruby, purple reflections, subtle bright rim. Fine nougat aroma, black cherry, good savouriness, inviting bouquet, tobacco nuances in the background. Juicy, good complexity, good fruit, round tannins, elegant, chocolaty touch, good freshness, mineral aftertaste.
        • Wine Advocate: 2015 Xisto, an old-vines field blend released only in certain years, is Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, all aged for 20 months in French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. Far too marked by wood just now, this also shows off all of its great potential. Sensual in texture, this concentrated Xisto easily coats the palate and fills the mouth. It shows finesse and balance as well.

        Producer Information

The Roquette & Cazes project represents the coming together of two friends, Jorge Roquette (from Quinta do Crasto) and Jean-Michel Cazes (from Château Lynch-Bages. In 2002, these two families decided to set up a company to produce great wines that would be distinguished by the natural characteristics of the Douro Valley and by the experience of the Cazes, who have been producers for centuries. Wines are planted in Douro’s traditional “Patamares” (terraces) with two rows of vines. The hand-harvested grapes of Xisto – Roquette & Cazes 2018 come from vines located in the subregions of Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. All the grapes of Xisto – Roquette & Cazes 2018 are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel conic vats. Rack and return is performed during fermentation. This French technique means that the juice is drained from the fermenting vat leaving the cap behind. The fermenting juice is then pumped back over the cap, maximising the skin contact. The result is a concentrated, complex wine that is also elegant and stylish.
