Detailed Description
Detailed Description
This cherry-colored wine offers a bouquet of blackberry jam, Chambord, thyme and saddle leather. Savory flavors of dried Mediterranean herbs, olive paste and pipe tobacco outweigh bright red-fruit notes. Plush tannins and a note of salinity remain on the palate of the wine.
Producer Information
Bodega Marañones' landscape spans from the top of the Sierra de Gredos mountain range to the valley's foothills. The combination of geology, climate, and soils provides conditions ideal for vine cultivation. The high altitude, old vines, local varieties, and fractured granite soils lend to the diverse characteristics of the individual plots. Bodega Marañones practices biodynamic agriculture and organic principles as part of their winemaking philosophy. Vineyards reside mainly on the north side, which, given the slope of the plots, facilitates optimal sun exposure. The mountain ranges protect the vineyards from the cold winds and frosts of the north and allow for better ventilation. Gentle and constant wind flow, influenced by the Mediterranean climate, allows a natural aerial "cleaning" of the vines, making them less susceptible to fungal diseases. The natural disintegration of granite is the basis of the vineyards of Marañones. The composition of the soil is characterized by its acidity levels of silica and low organic matter, which provide a high mineral expression to the grape.
