      Detailed Description

Fresh fruit and floral aromas dominate the nose; pink grapefruit, tangerine, citrus blossom, and apple flavors are complemented by a bit of wet stone. The oak influence creates a nice mid-palate, the wine shows a balanced acidity that carries through the long finish.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Enthusiast: For such a widely available wine, this is an extremely reliable bet. Aromas of clean and light lemon, nectarine and sea salt are pleasantly mellow, while the palate offers balanced brushes of lemon peel and white peach, wrapped in a soft yet acid-boosted texture.
      • James Suckling: Lithe and powerful, featuring a vibrant core of apple and peach pastry flavors, with dried tropical fruit accents. Buttery midpalate, delivering a plush finish that lingers with intense spiciness.

      Producer Information

Cambria Estate is fittingly found down Chardonnay Lane in the Santa Maria Valley, of California. It is particularly known for its production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Proprietor Barbara Banke acquired the original Tepusquet vineyard in 1986 along with her spouse Jess Jackson, and have now been producing cool-climate varietals for more than 25 years. The estate vineyard is located on the Santa Maria bench, 17 miles (27km) inland from the Pacific Ocean between the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Sisquoc River. Prior to 1986, it was owned by the Olivera family as a part of the 1838 Mexican land grant, who raised cattle and planted Mission grapes on the property. The climate here is cool-maritime with fog frequently funnelled into area that ‘refrigerates the sunshine’ and creates one of the longest growing seasons in California. The estate covers more than 1,400 acres (566ha) of undulating topography between 400 to 800 feet (121 to 243m) above sea level. There are many soil types found throughout the estate, a majority of which are sandy, alluvial and well-draining. Cambria Estate primarily focuses on Pinot Noir production with 483 acres (195ha) planted to a range of different clones of the variety. As well as estate based varietal Pinot Noir, they also produce a limited amount of clonal Pinot Noir, of which offers an interesting comparison of the effect of clone selection on the organoleptic properties of the finished wine. The flagship wines are Julia’s Pinot Noir, Katherines’ Chardonnay and the Tepusquet Syrah. They also have an artisan program of which renowned winemakers from the region create individual interpretations of Pinot Noir from Julia’s Vineyard of which is an educational endeavour of the impact of winemaking techniques to alter the expression of terroir.
