This gorgeous wine greets the nose with fragrant aromas of dried Mission figs and hints of thyme. The flavors that follow include berry compote, red cherry, vanilla, light brown sugar and hints of cocoa. It’s a bright, juicy wine with many layers and soft supple tannins that lead to an elegant finish.

• Tasting Panel: Aged in French and American oak, this dynamic blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec offers up scents of huckleberry, dried herbs, and vanilla. An incredibly silky entry of ripe blueberry preserves captivates with a luxurious mouthfeel. The textural sensations continue with melting dark chocolate, graphite, and a coat of anise.

• James Suckling: Aromas of black fruits, peppermint, bark and dried herbs. Full body with plush tannins. Fruity and chocolatey with fresh acidity and a lively finish.

Peju Winery is a Napa Valley wine producer located in Rutherford. It produces a range of varietal and blended wines, primarily from classic Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The estate was founded in 1983 by Tony and Herta Peju, who today run the winery with their daughters, Lisa and Ariana Peju. Peju is perhaps best known for its unique architecture which includes a 50ft (15m) tower surrounded by abundant gardens. It is located near to iconic Napa estates like Inglenook, Beaulieu and Robert Mondavi. Peju owns numerous vineyards in the Napa Valley, Sonoma and Mendocino counties. The Rutherford estate is planted to 9 hectares (22 acres) of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The estate's Wappo Vineyard, located in Calistoga, has 5ha (12 acres) of grapevines and the two vineyards in Pope Valley – Persephone Vineyard and Tess Vineyard – are planted to 65ha (160 acres) of Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah and the red Bordeaux varieties. Today, holdings have expanded to 232 acres (93 hectares) of vineyards, a majority of which are managed with sustainable practices. The estate's wine portfolio includes a full range of blended and varietal red and white wines, as well as sparkling and dessert wines. The flagship is the H.B Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve of which spends over two year aging in French oak barrels prior to bottling. Peju's total production averages around 35,000 cases annually.
