A superb example of the world class quality this vineyard routinely produces. The color shows a silvery green rim with a classic golden core. The aromatics explode off the nose with tropical tones like pineapple crème brûlèe, lychee, a fresh vibrancy and flint and toasted honeycomb.

• Wine Advocate: The 2019 Chardonnay Estate bursts with bold notions of guava, juicy peaches and honeydew melon, followed by hints of beeswax, toasted almonds and nutmeg with a waft of candied ginger. The full-bodied palate delivers a gorgeous satiny texture with layers of stone fruit and melon flavors and loads of savory/spicy accents, finishing on a lingering honey-nut note. 400 cases are due to be made.

• Vinous: The 2019 Chardonnay Estate is a potent, structured wine that will need a few years to come together. Its depth, complexity and overall presence are admirable. Bright acids perk up a core of tangerine peel, mint, apricot and honey. The 2019 is beautifully done. Given how these wines age, I would be in no rush to open a bottle.

After a measured and patient search for a vineyard property in the Napa Valley, the Steffens Family ended their quest when they acquired a forty-acre property atop Spring Mountain. Planted in the early 1980’s to eight acres of each Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, the property met the family’s stringent requirements to sustainably grow premium grapes allowing them to craft wines with a true sense of place. Founded in 1999 and named after proprietor Launny Steffens’ life and background in the world of finance with a theme encompassed by numerics, and a keen interest in numerology — “seven” being a number of luck in western culture, while “eight” follows the meanings of prosperity and happiness in eastern culture — Vineyard 7 & 8 is the culmination of the family’s pursuit for producing fine wines including Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
