        Reviews:

        • Burghound: Ripe if somewhat leesy aromas of apple and pear are difficult to read. More interesting are the attractively textured and precise middle weight flavors that possess only average concentration but fine depth and persistence on the balanced, firm and mildly austere finale.
        • Jasper Morris: Planted in 1929. Mid lemon yellow. Some flesh to this, evident sunshine but still a very appealing nose. This might even do the butter and hazelnuts thing later on. White fruit flesh, I think this is beautiful. The sunshine adds in a little grenadine and ripe pomegranate to finish. Very long, in fact the flavours just keep coming. Wonderful.

        Producer Information

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot was established by Marc and Alexandre Bachelet in 2005 and is situated in Dezize-lès-Maranges, a commune of Maranges at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. The wider estate covers around 20 hectares (50 acres) of estate-owned and contracted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines in climats including grand cru vineyards in Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. Additional holdings include premier cru plots in Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Maranges itself (in particular, 50 percent of the Clos de la Boutière vineyard). The Bachelet brothers are descended from a long-line of Burgundian winemakers, and together they cultivate a combination of family-owned and leased vineyards covering a total of 20 appellations and producing 8300 cases of wine per year. No herbicides are used in the farming of the vineyards and yields are kept purposefully low through debudding. Grapes are harvested by hand and, in general, the wines age in 25 percent new oak barrels for approximately 12 months before racking and aging on their lees for six to eight months in bottle. In addition to its grand and premier cru wines, Domaine Bachelet-Monnot makes a range of white and red village-level wines from vineyard plots in Santenay, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet. These wines sit alongside the domaine's expressions of Bourgogne Rouge and Blanc.
