Leeu Passant Wines is a notable, award-winning South African wine producer based in Franschhoek. It is known for producing fine wines from specially selected, often very old, vineyards in Stellenbosch, Wellington and Franschhoek. The Leeu Passant vineyards are planted to Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Cinsault. The latter comes from the oldest registered red-wine vineyard in South Africa, planted in 1900. The Leeu Passant label was founded in 2013, when winemakers Chris and Andrea Mullineux of Mullineux Wines in Swartland entered a partnership with Analjit (Bas) Sing of Leeu Estate in Franschhoek, allowing the Mullineuxes to make wine in new regions under new labels. The Leeu (Lion) Passant is a heraldic term for the depiction of a walking lion with the right paw raised with the others on the ground.
